Who we are

WINEGROWERS IN FARRA DI SOLIGO

We are a family business and independent winegrowers, we have been cultivating our vines for five generations and we manage the entire process, from the vine to the sale of the bottle. Our roots, like those of our vines, are firmly anchored in this ancient land of steep slopes.
We cultivate 12 hectares, spread over 15 different zones. Although it complicates the management of the land, this aspect is very important for obtaining variety and complexity in the resulting sparkling wines. Most of our vineyards are located in Farra di Soligo, one of the steepest and most complex hilly areas of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene district.

Winegrowers for five generations and suppliers of grapes to renowned local wineries, we established our winery in 2009 with the desire to express the best of our territory in a bottle.
Matteo, a passionate winemaker, carefully oversees the winery, while Luca, tireless viticulturist, devotes himself to tending the vineyards.

After a lifetime of tireless work, Mom Margherita and Dad Cesare continue to be present in our daily activities with commitment and passion.

Biodiversity and vineyards management

We are in a site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage. The principal elements to be found here, then, are:
1. The geomorphological system known as “hogback”, made up of a series of steep, rugged elevations.
2. The widespread presence of the cultivation of vines on "ciglioni" , a particular type of terracing that uses earth with plant cover instead of stones.
3. The presence of an agricultural mosaic, created by the efforts of thousands of small-scale vine-growers, which is highly fragmented but interconnected, characterized by vineyard sites interspersed with a substantial presence of woods and fallow land.

It is in this context of remarkable biodiversity that the "Volpere" area in Farra di Soligo extends, with rocky and rugged hillside slopes where we find our largest vineyard, nestled between forests and wild nature. This is also where the company's name "Le Volpere" comes from, a toponym referring to the foxes that populate the woods in the most inaccessible areas of the hills.

Following this are another 5 hectares (50000 sq.m.) of steep vineyards, fragmented into small plots that extend across various slopes and altitudes on the hills between Farra di Soligo and, further north, towards Premaor, a cooler area where we find the "Miliane" vineyard, a source of acidity and freshness for our zero- residual sugar extra brut.
Our hillside vineyards are tended with largely manual processes due to the steep incline, and these operations require a total of between 600 and 700 hours per hectare per year.

We respect our land and adopt agricultural techniques aimed as much as possible at preserving natural plant balance, such as cutting grass by hand instead of chemical weeding, using manure and compost (which we produce ourselves) instead of mineral fertilizers, limiting chemical treatments avoiding the use of more harmful active substances and using only copper and sulphur as the harvest approaches.

As a result of these choices, we have introduced bees to the "Volpere" vineyard, thanks to a fruitful collaboration with the Eno-Bee project, which has helped us deepen our commitment to nature. Our bees, with their sensitivity to chemical agents, serve as an important indicator of environmental balance, prompting us to work in an increasingly respectful manner.
